Clean Air Plan update focuses on technical outdoor air purification
Due to Purevento’s succesfull test of the City Air Cleaner prototype technical outdoor air cleaning has become the preferred instrument to reduce harmful pollutants locally in city centers in the short run and to prevent driving bans – because its impact can be measured immediately.
Today, the update of the Clean Air Plan for the state capital Kiel by the Ministry for Energy Transition, Agriculture, Environment, Nature and Digitalisation came into force. The Environmental Protection Agency (Umweltschutzamt) of the City of Kiel is now required to implement the measures listed in it.
In the years 2012 to 2019, an annual mean value for nitrogen dioxide measured on the Theodor-Heuss-Ring in Kiel exceeded the legal immission limit. According to national clean air legislation, a Clean Air Plan must define measures for the permanent reduction of air pollution that are suitable for keeping the exceedance of the immission limit value as short as possible. The main cause of air pollution on this most frequented road section of the Theodor-Heuss-Ring is road traffic. In order to ensure the required timely compliance with the nitrogen dioxide (NO2) limit value of 40 micrograms per cubic metre, the new air pollution control plan provides for the use of air filtration systems from the 4th quarter of 2020.
